Oxford County OPP say an investigation at the Canada Post in Tillsonburg is underway after several employees reported having medical symptoms, and were evacuated from the location.
Police say they received an “assist call” around 12:30 p.m. to the post office on Brock St. along with Tillsonburg Fire Service and EMS.
Before police could arrive, all eight employees who were in the building were cleared by EMS. No injuries were reported.
According to a local business owner, union gas officials could also be seen on the street.
Co-owner of Willaert Appliances John Vandenbrink tells AM980 they were told not to leave the building.
“We were told not to leave the building, and just basically that there was a gas substance or something found over at the post office,” he said. ”
A Union Gas spokesperson has confirmed to AM980 that there was no gas leak, and that they were simply called to attend the scene.
Police say the Urban Search and Rescue, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive Response Team has been called out to the scene. The post office remains closed for investigation.
Brock St. was closed for several hours but has since been reopened.
In a release, Cst. Stacey Culbert said that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
