Milton Police could lay charges against a mother of three young children who were found in a car that was parked in hot weather in a retail parking lot Wednesday evening.
Halton Region police responded to the call after a person noticed the children aged between 4 and 12 in a car around 6:45 p.m.
The temperature was around 32 degrees Celsius outside at the time, with the humidity making it feel warmer.
The vehicle was parked in an “expectant mother” parking space in full sunlight.
Police stated that the car had all four windows opened approximately seven centimetres with the engine turned off.
Officers persuaded the oldest child to unlock a door in order to get air circulating through the car.
Authorities reported that the youngest appeared to be sleeping and was sweating profusely.
Paramedics checked the children and the three appeared to not be suffering any ill effects.
Around 11 minutes after police arrived, the 38-year-old mother returned the vehicle and explained why she left her children in the vehicle.
Police have not revealed what she told them at this time.
Authorities are reviewing video surveillance to see how long the children were in the vehicle before they arrived.
Police will then determine the charges that could be laid against the unidentified woman.
