Elgin OPP say the province’s police watchdog has invoked its mandate and is now looking into an incident in Port Stanley early Friday that saw one man taken to hospital for treatment of an upper body injury.
Few details about the incident have been released.
Provincial police say they were called to an unspecified location in Port Stanley around 1 a.m. to an ambulance assistance call.
At the scene, a male became “uncooperative with EMS and police personnel,” said Elgin OPP in a media release Friday.
After being taken into custody, the man was transported to nearby hospital for treatment of an upper body injury, police said.
No further information has been released by the OPP, who notified the Special Investigations Unit.
The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate, and as a result, any further information about the incident or investigation will be released by the SIU. The agency had not issued any details about the investigation as of early Saturday afternoon.
