An investigation continues into a deadly fire that claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman in east London early Thursday morning.
The London Police Criminal Investigations Unit have launched a joint investigation with the Fire Marshal to determine the cause of a fire inside a unit at Huron Tower Apartments.
Fire crews were called to 630 Huron Street, just east of Adelaide Street at around 3:42 a.m. Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming from a ground floor apartment. Fire crews had to force their way into a smoke-filled apartment where a victim was located near the door.
A 60-year-old woman was found unresponsive. Fire fighters performed CPR until EMS arrived, but she was transported to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
The identity of the victim has not been released, and there is no word on the cause of the fire, or whether it is being treated as suspicious.
