The MS Society of Canada reports this past weekend’s fundraising bike ride from Grand Bend to London and back raised $1.3-million, matching last year’s total.
The event was part of MS Bike, the largest cycling series in North America, and saw 1,525 cyclists travel 150 kilometres from Grand Bend to London and back this past Saturday and Sunday.
Three more MS Bike events are scheduled this summer: Ottawa to Cornwall on August 6-7, Niagara on August 21 and Toronto on September 18th. Organizers say roughly $2.6 million in pledges is set to be raised by the end of the year.
Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world, with roughly 100,000 Canadians affected by the chronic, often disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord.
