No injuries were reported after a fire tore through part of a St. Thomas-area garden centre Friday.
Details about the blaze remain limited, but Elgin OPP and crews from Central Elgin Fire were called to the scene at Family Flowers on Talbot Line, just outside St. Thomas, around 3:40 p.m.
“It was reported that a fire from hay bales spread to greenhouses,” said Middlesex OPP Cst. Liz Melvin in an email Saturday. “The fire is non-suspicious in nature.”
“We can assure you that, thankfully, no one was in the vicinity at the time of the fire, no body was injured, and all of the animals are safe and well out of harms way,” said a post on the Family Flowers Facebook page Friday. “Thank you to all of the fire fighters for your quick actions to contain the fire and protect the crops, despite the heat, and thank you to the passerby who reported the fire.”
Police are not investigating the fire, Melvin said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
