After more than a week of endless tears and heartbreak, family and friends of a Calgary mother and her little girl gathered to say a final good-bye.
A celebration of life was held for Sara Baillie and her daughter Taliyah Marsman Thursday afternoon in Calgary, which included tributes from loved ones.
Before the ceremony started, Baillie’s mother (Taliyah’s grandmother) made a brief statement to the media, thanking Calgarians and Canadians for their support.
“We are of course overcome with grief by the unnecessary loss of two beautiful members of our family,” Janet Fredette said.
“Despite our grief we are also overwhelmed by the strength this community has given us.
Baillie was found dead inside her northwest Calgary home July 11, sparking an Alberta-wide Amber Alert that ended in tragedy.
It’s believed Baillie’s daughter, Taliyah, was killed just hours after Baillie.
The five-year-old’s body was found just outside the Calgary city limits Thursday night.
Edward Downey, 46, remains in custody accused of two counts of first-degree-murder in the case.
