A Trump organization staff writer has offered her resignation after she says she made a “mistake” in using passages from a Michelle Obama speech in Melania Trump’s convention speech.
Donald Trump has rejected Meredith McIver’s resignation.
McIver explained her role in the plagiarism controversy in a statement issued Wednesday.
She says Mrs. Trump read passages from Michelle Obama’s convention speech in 2008 as the two were writing Trump’s speech. The nearly identical notes made by McIver made it into the final version.
She says she feels terrible for the “chaos” she caused.
The Trump campaign has denied accusations of plagiarism, saying the similarities were coincidental.
