Emergency crews have launched a desperate search in Port Stanley for a missing swimmer.
Elgin County OPP received a report just before 4 p.m. Thursday that two swimmers – an 18 year old man and a 19 year old woman – appeared to be in distress in the water.
The woman made it to shore and is receiving medical attention, however the 18 year old did not make it back to shore.
Officials with the Central Elgin Fire Dept. put a rope line into the water with the help of volunteers as part of the rescue effort.
Members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trention, the Elgin OPP Marine Unit, the United States Coast Guard, and Ornge Air Ambulance are assisting at the scene.
