Middlesex OPP say charges are pending after a tire flew off a trailer and caused a crash along Hwy. 401.
Officers say it was shortly before 7 a.m. when emergency crews were called out to the highway between Highbury Ave. and Old Victoria Rd.
They found a black, Chevrolet pick-up truck that was towing a flatbed trailer with a scissor lift on it was in the westbound lanes of the highway when the front driver’s side wheel on the trailer came off and rolled into traffic.
It crossed into the eastbound lanes after jumping the median and the OPP says a silver Chrysler car swerved to miss it. The car completely spun around on the wet road and its passenger side hit the transport truck.
Officers say the 32-year-old London man driving the car was treated by EMS for non life-threatening injuries and transported to hospital where he remains.
The 49-year-old man from Central Elgin who was behind the wheel of the big rig wasn’t hurt, neither was the 24-year-old Dundas man who was driving the pick-up truck whose trailer lost the wheel.
The OPP says the eastbound lanes of the highway have reopened to regular traffic.
