It’s a dream come true for two lucky people in southern Ontario.
Officials with the Dream Lottery awarded their biggest prizes on Tuesday morning.
The winner of the 50/50 draw, Dale Wilson of London, will take home $475,935. The total collected in the 50/50 was $951,870, which is a new record for the lottery.
The Ultimate Grand Prize winner is Walter Ostanek of St. Catharines. He’ll get to choose between four grand prizes: a home in London, a Bayfield container home, a loft-condo in London, or $1,000,000 cash.
Besides the luxury homes, expensive cars, and exotic trips, the Dream Lottery is an opportunity for Londoners to raise money for special programs, and research that will directly improve patient care.
“This is the 20th year of our Dream Lottery, and the total is now over $28 million dollars that is supporting the very best care that can be provided to our patients and their families at St. Joe’s, London Health Sciences Centre, and the Children’s Hospital,” said Susan Crowley, President and CEO of the Children’s Health Foundation.
For the first time, a container home (pictured) built by Hillier Contracting Inc. in Bayfield is among the top prizes. The upscale home repurposes eight shipping containers and features other environmentally friendly materials. London-based design and home staging company Upstaging Limited is behind the unique design.
“The new container home in Bayfield this year brought a lot of new people in to learn about our Dream Lottery and to learn about our health care system a little bit, and the awareness is huge that the lottery brings to our region,” said Crowley.
A total of 1,038 prizes will be awarded during the two days of the draw.
