One of the summer’s hottest events has returned to the Forest City.
Sunfest opens at Victoria Park Thursday for its annual four-day celebration.
This year, Sunfest has opted for an African themed festival.
Dubbed Afrikalia, the event will feature a number of musicians coming from countries such as Mali, Algeria, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
“It is incredible because truly Africa is the motherland of music and this is the first time ever that we want to showcase so many musical and cultural expressions from that beautiful continent,” Artistic Director, Alfredo Caxaj, tells AM980.
The 22nd annual event will be home to 33 performers including jazz, folk, rock, and classical acts.
The festival will also have over 300 food and craft vendors.
“This is the time of the year that people really wait for,” says Caxaj. “People plan their holidays around these dates and it’s absolutely fantastic to see how the community and people outside of London have embraced this festival.”
Admission to Sunfest is free, however organizers will be accepting donations.
The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday.
