OPP officers are asking the public to refrain from calling police regarding the Canadian Revenue Agency Scam unless a caller is a victim of fraud that can be attributed to this scam.
Provincial police warned the public about the CRA Scam last month. Since then, some OPP Communication Centres are receiving as many as 100 or more calls per day from people wanting to report they received one of these scam related calls.
Police say while they appreciate your good intentions, these calls are at times restricting the OPP’s ability to take calls from the public that require a police response.
Anyone receiving calls regarding the scam is asked to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or report the incident on their website.
Police are also asking the public to use the CRA’s website, which can help in recognizing this scam and others that are plaguing Canadians. A link can be found here.
