Commuters who drive through Western University to get around might have to change their route for the next couple of weeks.
Starting Monday, Perth Drive between the Chemistry parking lot and the Visual Art Centre will be closed for the construction of the new Western Interdisciplinary Research Building.
The stretch of roadway, just south of University Hospital, works as one of the major north-south corridors on campus.
“The road runs in front of University Hospital,” Western Director of Media and Communications Keith Marnoch tells AM980, “So those needing to access the hospital by car will have to do so by way of Western Road or Windermere Road during this period.”
The road is scheduled to reopen on July 24th.
The LTC has put detours in place for a number of bus routes that use that stretch of road. Those detours can be found here.
Perth Drive’s west sidewalk will remain open during the construction, though an occasional detour is expected.
The closure will allow crews to bring steam, chilled water, storm water/sewer and communications to the seven-storey WIRB, which is expected to open in late 2017 or early 2018.
