The reigning Memorial Cup Champion London Knights’ broadcast will soon have a new home.
AM980 has entered into an agreement to be the official broadcaster of the London Knights starting in the 2016-17 season and for the following four seasons.
“We are excited to be starting a new chapter with AM980 and their broadcast team,” said London Knights Owner and President Dale Hunter. “I would like to thank Bell Media and 1290 CJBK for an amazing partnership over the past 22 years. They have been with us during some of the biggest moments in franchise history and we truly appreciate the work we have been able to do together.”
The Knights are coming off one of the best seasons in team history, winning the franchise’s second Memorial Cup to cap a 17-game playoff win streak.
The Knights saw even more postseason success when seven players were taken in last weekend’s NHL Draft.
Marketing Director for the team Geoff Hare tells AM980 the partnership will help to grow the Knights brand.
“We got the opportunity to work with a great local organization. AM980 has a great following along with a lot of their sister and brother brands across the network so we’re really excited to be able to reach London Knights fans and create new London Knights fans.”
The Knights kick off the season on the road when they visit the Sarnia Sting on Sept. 21.
Their home opener is a rematch of the third round of the OHL playoffs when they host the Erie Otters on Sept. 23.
