A 22 year old St. Thomas man is facing several charges following a violent altercation with a police officer.
The officer responded to a Hammond Street address just before 8 p.m. Wednesday to a report regarding an out of control man, according to a release.
Upon arrival, the officer witnessed a man pick up a cement bench and throw it at the residence.
He then ripped off a 20′ metal pole from the residence and struck the officer with it.
Police say the man then charged the officer, a struggle ensued, and the suspect managed to take the officer’s taser and fire it at him.
Hhe missed and the officer was able to regain control of the taser and the suspect was arrested.
A 22 year old man was charged with mischief under $5,000, assaulting a police officer, and disarming a police officer.
He was held pending a bail hearing.
