Two local MPPs are adding their voices to those concerned about the dismissal of the London Health Sciences Centre’s Chief Nursing Executive.
Last week, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario voiced concerns that Vanessa Burkoski was fired because of her advocacy work with the group.
On Tuesday, New Democrat MPPs Peggy Sattler (pictured) and Teresa Armstrong sent a letter to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care asking that an independent investigation be launched into the dismissal.
“The Public Hospitals Act includes a provision to allow the minister of health to conduct a review of the operations of a public hospital,” Sattler, who represents London-West, tells AM980.
“Since the story broke about the dismissal of this nurse, there have been a lot of questions legitimately asked about the circumstances of this dismissal.”
Sattler notes that the dismissal follows a report from the RNAO that was critical of hospitals that are replacing RNs with less qualified care providers.
“That’s one of the questions that we have that we believe needs to be addressed by the independent third party review. We understand there was a report by RNAO that apparently lead to the dismissal but we need some more information about the circumstances.”
Sattler was unable to provide any timeline on if or when a report would be complete.
