London Police are responding to reports of a suspicious package on the grounds of Westervelt College.
Sargeant Alex Garret tells AM980 they received a call around 8:35 a.m. Monday from a staff member at the college about a suspicious package on the northwest corner of the building.
“Presently, we observed the package and are taking precautions,” Garret says. “We have evacuated the building and immediate area.”
Staff members at the school located a gym bag with what appeared to be a metal box with some exposed wires at the northwest corner of the building.
As a precaution, the school was evacuated and the Explosive Disposal Unit was brought out to the scene.
Officers say no injuries have been reported and no threats have been made to the school.
Classes at Westervelt College have been cancelled for the remainder of the day. A handful of staff remain on site.
The northbound lane of Wellington Road was closed down for a short period of time, but has since reopened, with only pedestrian traffic shut down on the east side of Wellington Road.
More information to come.
