Perth County OPP say a 54 year old man has died following a construction incident south of Sebringville.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Line 32 and Road 134 over the noon hour on Friday where a construction vehicle had struck a hydro pole and a construction worker had been seriously injured.
OPP say the investigation has revealed that a construction truck with a water tank struck the driver who was outside the vehicle. The driver-less truck then struck a hydro pole located on the south side of the roadway causing a powerline to become detached and land on the roadway near the driver, who was transported to a local hospital.
OPP say 54 year old Murray Hyde of the township of Perth East was pronounced dead in hospital.
The West Region OPP Technical Traffic Investigation Team attended the scene. The Perth East Fire Department, Perth County EMS, and Hydro One personnel assisted at the scene. The Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Coroner are also involved in the investigation.
The incident resulted in a minor power outage in the area. Line 32 between Road 140 and Road 134, and Road 134 between the Village of Sebringville and Line 32 is expected to remain closed to traffic until approximately 10 p.m.
