Officials say the Mt. Brydges library will remain closed for upwards of three months following a fire.
The fire, which occurred Monday night, was contained to the basement, but the main floor sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire is undetermined but officials say there is a strong likelihood that the building was struck by lightning.
“The Mt. Brydges Library is a very busy branch, well-loved and supported by the community,” said Lindsay Brock, County Librarian, Middlesex County Library. “We’re working on a plan for delivering library services to the community during the closure, especially our Summer Reading Club programs and activities, which are hugely popular with kids and families.”
A damage estimate for the blaze has not been released.
“We understand that this is a major inconvenience for users of the library, and we’re working on a plan for a pop-up library in the community – a place to pick up holds and drop off returned items – for those users who can’t make it to other branches.”
