North Star Windows and Doors in St. Thomas is partnering with the province to create 140 new jobs and retain 184 positions as part of a multi-million dollar expansion project.
On Friday, Cambridge MPP Kathryn McGarry announced Ontario is providing a conditional grant of over $1.2 million through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund to help the design company buy new equipment.
“By supporting North Star Windows and Doors’ expansion plans, we are helping to keep the company in the province, and giving families in southwestern Ontario employment opportunities. It is wonderful to see new, innovative designs coming out of the St. Thomas facility,” said McGarry.
Officials say the investment will also help the company expand its plant to increase production. The funds from the province cover up to 15 per cent of eligible project costs, with North Star Windows and Doors funding the remainder of the $10 million dollar project from its own resources.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Ontario government on this exciting project,” said Ron Cauchi, CEO of North Star Windows and Doors.
“The investment we’re announcing today will help us purchase innovative manufacturing equipment and also give us the extra manufacturing space we need to meet growing demand, and expand our business both locally and internationally.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
