A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a riding lawn mower in the Niagara Region community of Pelham Thursday evening.
Niagara Regional Police say initial investigation reveal that the boy’s 32 year-old- father was cutting his grass on a riding lawn mower.
The boy had gone into the house and came back outside without his father noticing.
As the father was cutting his front lawn, the boy began following the lawn mower. When the father reversed the mower, it knocked the boy to the ground and ran him over.
An off-duty Hamilton paramedic supervisor, who happened to live next door, assisted first responders to help stabilize the boy and transport him to a Niagara Health System hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The incident is still under investigation.
Police will not be releasing the name of the boy or his father at the request of the family.
