Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton is planning to visit the Flour Mill in Arva on Friday, after the nearly 200 year old business was forced to scale back operations.
Federal health and safety inspectors showed up unannounced last month.
According to officials, the mill doesn’t meet current safety standards and unless changes are made, the mill will be deemed unsafe for employees.
The owner got the go-ahead last week to re-start machinery, but has been running the operation solo for the time being.
Upgrades to the mill would be pricey, and would also take away part of its “uniqueness.”
There haven’t been any injuries associated with the equipment.
McNaughton took to social media on Thursday to express his frustration with the decision by federal officials.
The mill originally opened in 1819.
