A new poll suggests Donald Trump is running nearly even with Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The opinion poll released by Reuters and Ipsos Wednesday found that 41 per cent of voters are supporting Clinton and 40 per cent are backing Trump.
The other 19 per cent of voters are undecided.
The results come after Trump knocked out US Senator Ted Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich last week to secure the Republican nomination.
The online poll of over 1,200 people was conducted from Friday to Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney is suggesting that the real reason Trump is not releasing his tax returns is that the billionaire is hiding a “bombshell of unusual size” in the documents. The former presidential hopeful posted the allegation on Facebook.
Trump said in an interview Tuesday that he doesn’t believe he has an obligation to release his tax returns and won’t release them before November unless an ongoing audit of his finances is completed before Election Day.
Trump will meet Thursday with House Speaker Paul Ryan.
