The cause of an early morning townhouse fire in the city’s southeast end Sunday remains under investigation, and fire officials say a damage estimate has been pegged at around $125,000.
Fire crews were called just after 2 a.m. to a townhouse complex near Southdale Road and Millbank Drive.
At the scene, firefighters were met with flames coming out the unit’s windows.
“The crew made a quick attack, and we had the fire out probably within 10 minutes,” said Fire Platoon Chief John Hunt.
“It gutted a couple of rooms, and smoke travelled through all three floors, through the basement and the upper floor and the main floor, so it did a lot of smoke damage,” Hunt said.
The occupants of the unit involved were not home at the time of the fire, which Hunt says occurred in the unit’s living room.
No injuries were reported, and no other units at the complex were damaged.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the fire inspector, who remains at the scene.
