People across Canada are coming together to support Fort McMurray with a donation of $30 million towards the relief effort.
Canadian Red Cross President Conrad Sauve stated that on Thursday alone, upwards of 100,000 people texted his organization to donate to the northern Alberta community.
Sauve is calling the the situation an unprecedented “Canadian moment” as the Red Cross continues to work with Alberta and Ottawa. The organization is working to meet the emergency needs in the community by working with the local authorities to secure a long-term recovery.
In response to the the Canadian Red Cross registering 14,000 families in need, the organization has received volunteers looking to ensure that the families receive help.
Both the federal and Alberta governments are promising to match all donations to the Red Cross for the relief efforts in Fort McMurray.
