City staff have been tasked with looking into the possibility of expanding the London Police Services Board.
Councillor Mo Salih brought forward that idea during Tuesday’s meeting to add two members to the current group of five.
Salih said the current board is understaffed, and used Hamilton as an example to follow.
He wanted the city to write a letter to Ontario Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, requesting the Board be permitted to expand to seven members.
Council voted in favour of sending the matter to staff for more study since it wasn’t first brought forward at the committee level.
Salih stressed that his motion had nothing to do with the current budget dispute between the city and the Board, which is appealing to the Ontario Police Commission for additional municipal funding.
