It’s been over a decade since the province implemented a ban on pit bulls, but the London Humane Society says the dogs are continuing to be bred in Ontario.
On Monday morning, a pit bull puppy was abandoned at the London Humane Society.
“It’s very possible that the family found out after bringing the puppy into their home that it’s illegal, and they decided that they would take the steps to bring it here,” said Executive Director Judy Foster.
A veterinarian assessed the puppy, named Lola by the staff, and determined it’s a pit bull based on distinguishing characteristics.
Foster says the puppy will be transferred out of province where it will gain a new start.
Former Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant introduced the pit bull ban in October 2004 and the law came into effect in early 2005.
