Residents are rolling out the red carpet for a young London actor, as his biggest feature film to date makes it’s local premiere.
St. Thomas Aquinas student Jackson Martin plays the lead character in “Sleeping Giant,” an award-winning Canadian movie that will be screened for the first time ever to the public in London on Friday.
“I had done lots of short films when I was younger and I have lots of acting experience but nothing has ever come close to this success so I was really happy with the feedback from it and everyone’s reactions,” said the 15-year-old who’s been acting since he was eight.
“Sleeping Giant” was the only Canadian feature film accepted to Cannes last May, and has won numerous awards including Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
Martin stars as Adam, who’s spending the summer in cottage country on the shores of Lake Superior. He meets two other young teens who cope with boredom by testing the limits of their experience.
Members of the public can view the film at Cineplex Odeon Westmount and VIP Cinemas on Friday at 3:40 p.m., 6:40 p.m. and 9:50 p.m.
Martin will be on hand for a Q & A session following the 6:40 p.m. screening, as well as after Saturday’s 4:45 p.m. showing.
