Drivers be aware that more than 2,000 participants are expected to take part in the 34th annual Forest City Road Races throughout the city Sunday morning.
The event will shut down Dufferin Ave. between Wellington St. and Clarence St. as well as Wellington St. between Dufferin Ave. and Central Ave. (surrounding Victoria Park on the south and east ends).
All of the proceeds from Sunday’s event go to the Thames Valley Children’s Centre.
Race Director Steve Ryall tells AM980 there will be a lot of runners around London tomorrow.
“We’ll have approximately 2,200 runners registered by race time, so quite a large crowd running the roads on Sunday.”
The half marathon begins at 8 a.m. starting downtown and heading north through Western University, east along Windermere Rd., south on Adelaide St. and back into the core.
The 10k run begins at 10 a.m. and follows a similar route to the half marathon.
A 5k course is set up to do a quick run through downtown while the Kids Fun Run is 600 m and borders Victoria Park.
Ryall says it doesn’t matter if you walk or run, as long as you’re getting out and supporting the city.
“It’s not about just running, it’s about participation. So if you want to walk, we have a lot of people do that, and by doing that they are supporting the Thames Valley Children’s Centre with their participation.”
Runner packet pickup for Sunday’s races is Saturday in Victoria Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
