Middlesex-London EMS are reminding cyclists to wear their helmets after a concerned citizen sent them a photo of a helmet-less cyclist who was texting with a baby strapped to his chest.
According to Jay Loosley, Superintendent of Education for Middlesex-London EMS, the incident occurred on Friday in London.
“It is definitely concerning. I mean head injuries are a problem especially with bikes and too add in texting and a baby…we are just really concerned for everyone involved.”
Loosley says he understands that people may be forgetting to wear their helmets as the weather becomes nice.
“Public awareness is so important and we just want to get the message out that this isn’t safe and to remember to please wear your helmets, especially when your children are out biking. It sets a good example.”
“Having that helmet can make the difference between life and death, brain injury or no brain injury,” Loosley added.
Loosley says his initial reaction to the photo was shock, especially after seeing the child without a helmet.
He hopes that if someone sees a similar incident that they will call police with a description and location.
