More than 100,000 Hydro One customers across the province woke up Friday morning without power, including several thousand in the southwest.
A system of freezing rain that passed through the region is to blame for the widespread outages. The freezing rain coated wires and tree branches with ice.
Many areas without power should have it restored by 11 p.m. Friday night, according to the Hydro One power outage map.
Around 1,800 customers north and northeast of Woodstock, over 1,300 in east Oxford County, over 5,000 in the Listowel area, and roughly 13,100 in Owen Sound remained in the dark as of 10:30 a.m. Friday as crews worked around the clock to get hydro fully restored.
