The Boys and Girls Club of London is issuing a call for Arabic-speaking volunteers.
President Ali Chahbar says just like other local organizations, the Boys and Girls Club is preparing to welcome Syrian refugees.
“We offer a number of services at the Boys and Girls Club, from recreational to educational to any number of services. But one of the things we’ve identified as a potential issue is language. We have these newcomers coming across and one of the barriers that they’re going to have regardless of whatever they’re trying to access – government services, recreational services, educational – is that they don’t speak the language yet.”
Chahbar adds that the time commitment is minimal and they will work around your schedule whenever possible.
“Everybody leads busy lives and they have their own families and careers; if it’s an hour a week, great. If it’s two hours a week, great. If you’re interested don’t let the time aspect be an impediment. Let us know and we will try to work around your schedule as much as possible.”
