A barn fire at a private farm in Mount Forest that killed at least 12 horses is under investigation.
The fire comes only 10 days after 43 standardbred horses died in a stable fire at the Classy Lane Stables in Puslinch.
Mount Forest fire chief Dave Guilbault said it is believed one or possibly two horses were able to escape the blaze, which erupted at about 10 p.m. Guilbault said one man was taken to hospital as a precaution to be treated for smoke inhalation. It’s believed all 12 horses that died were Arabian.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
The fire is sure to hit southern Ontario’s horse racing community hard. It’s still reeling from the January 4th fire at the Classy Lane Stables.
The cause of the Puslinch fire remains under investigation.
